Introducing Pepsi RAW…but is it “good” for you.

Okay folks…I told you…everyone’s jumping on the ‘natural’ bandwagon. Consumers are becoming aware of the possible dangers of high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and flavorings and artificial sweeteners. So the companies are responding with ‘natural’ products. Don’t get me wrong, I get tickled by the notion of natural products. But how do you pick out the wolf that’s hiding within the sheep???

First of all, I must applaude PepsiCo at the strides that they’re making to give their consumers a relatively healthier choice. With that said, I do think that people should avoid these types of drinks if they want to be at a state of optimal health. Why you may ask? Well its more about what the product does to your biochemistry than the types of ingredients they use for the product. Firstly you must look at how this product ranks on the glycemic index. In other words, how fast and how how high does this product spike your blood sugar levels. Sure these ingredients are less ‘processed’ but it still puts a heavy burden on your glucose metabolism. A typical low glycemic product will be 55 or lower on the glycemic scale. Secondly, people may actually consume more of this product because it tauts that it’s natural so many will think “hey, I can have as many as I want.” WRONG. All things in moderation my friend.

Again, it’s a great step forward, but if you want optimal health…stick to pure water.
