I read an interesting article stating that being overweight can actually contribute to the global demise.  (Source) What?

“We need to be doing a lot more to reverse the global trend toward fatness, and recognize it as a key factor in the battle to reduce (carbon) emissions and slow climate change,” the British scientists said.

They estimated that each fat person is responsible for about one tonne of carbon dioxide emissions a year more on average than each thin person, adding up to an extra one billion tonnes of CO2 a year in a population of one billion overweight people.

I’m sorry, but this article totally misses the point of weight issues.  If you just look at it from a ‘carbon-footprint’ perspective, the average overweight person’s carbon footprint may actually equal out the carbon footprint of a person who works out and eats healthily everyday.  Let’s see, a person who works out on a regular basis probably goes to a gym which uses electricity to run the workout machines, then they breathe more and then consume more nutrient dense foods that used many different forms of energy to be produced.

The article should be really talking about “save yourself by losing weight” the planet will take care of itself.

  • Right on Dr. Mike!

I am so tired of "carbon footprints" that I am ready to plant one in the backside of the next person who mentions them.

We need to lose weight and feel our best because that brings out the joy in us. Excellent health is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves, to those we love, our community and thus our planet.

Did you see that movie "Cold Turkey?" I would love to do a "Cold Turkey" weight loss/energy boost version!

    What could the town win?

Just a thought and more pleasurable than thinking about those footprints ...

    Cheers!
