Colon Cancer symptoms and information
March 11th, 2008This month we recognize “Colorectal Cancer.” It is the third most common type of cancer and second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the western world (wikipedia). The danger with this type of cancer, or any cancer, is that you do not notice any symptoms until the cancer has fully manifested. By then, serious pathological changes has occurred. If you notice any significant changes in your bowel habits, like frequency or quality, or you notice blood or mucus in your stool, you may want to see a specialist immediately. Colorectal cancer usually will manifest at 60 or 70 years of age. But you should screen for this by at least age 50. Remember, prevention is the key. If you have a family history of colorectal cancer, past history of irritable bowel syndrome, Chron’s disease, chronic smoker or alcoholism, you may want to screen for colorectal cancer by your mid-thirties.
